A Fable about Sales Pitch

There was a suburban housewife who, last November, replaced all the windows in her fancy mansion with an expensive brand name that guaranteed energy efficiency and natural light because of doubled panes and space tech materials.

Then this Halloween week, she got a call from the contractor who installed them. He was complaining that his work had been completed a whole year ago, and she had yet to pay the bill.

Well! was the housewife indignant and incensed. 'She might have been better-off and self-indulgent,' said she, 'but that certainly did not mean she was without principle!'

So she proceeded to repeat to Mr. Irate Contractor just what his fast talking sales guy had said last year: namely, ". . .that in one year's time, the windows would have paid for themselves!"

After listening, for a reasonable period, to the silence on the other end, the housewife hung up.

She never heard from the fellow again.

Moral: In every arena, the unspoken rules.
